NCDAA Mentorship Program

Objective: Part of our mission statement includes “to advance the careers of

dental assistants”. In accord with that mission, the objective of this program is to serve as role models and retain students as active members of NCDAA after graduation and entering the dental workforce.

Mentor Requirements:

1)      A minimum of 5 years experience in the dental assisting field

2)      A member of NCDAA in good standing

3)      Served on a local or state committee

4)      Attended at least two Annual Sessions

Responsibilities: Being a mentor allows lots of room for creativity on your

part. Your main objective is to spend a little time taking a personal interest in your student, communicating with them and introducing them to NCDAA. Here are a few suggestions:

1)      Invite them to accompany you to local meetings

2)      Involve them in your committees and explain how they function

3)      Assist them in studying for tests and exams as needed

4)      Invite them to accompany you to Board Meetings

5)      Invite them to visit your office

6)      Address problems they may be having in their studies (i.e. pouring and trimming models, making temporaries, etc….)

7)      Ask their instructors for suggestions on how to help

Remember,

whatever amount of time you have to volunteer

would be appreciated!
